DAVAO CITY – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-Davao Region (LTFRB-11) is targeting 14,149 public utility vehicles (PUVs) to benefit from its fuel subsidy program this year.

During Tuesday's Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas media forum here, LTFRB-11 Director Nonito Llanos III said the beneficiaries will receive a PHP6,500 worth of fuel subsidy each.

Last year, 14,471 PUV units benefited from the program across the region.

The distribution of the fuel subsidy cards aims to alleviate the impact of fuel price hikes on drivers and operators. This follows the Joint Memorandum Circular No. 02, 2023 series on implementing the Fuel Subsidy Project for Fiscal Year 2023 and succeeding years.

Llanos said the LTFRB-11 is currently engaged in two modernization programs -- the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project and the Public Transport Modernization Program outside Davao City.

LTFRB, he said, is focused on not only modernizing the fleets but also on changing the passengers' mindset toward the modernization program.

“We have a long way to go, but we see a bright future for land transportation. With the full implementation of the public transport modernization project and the support of the riding public and our operators, we can have efficient public transport soon,” he said. (PNA)
