Malaysian Jeeva wins men's singles title in SEA Cup squash tourney

MANILA – Malaysian Sanjay Deeva bagged the men's singles title in the 8th Southeast Asia Cup Squash Championships at the National Squash Center inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Deeva needed 39 minutes to prevail over compatriot Sai Hung Ong, 11-4, 5-11, 11-6, 11-6.

In the semifinal round, Jeeva defeated Singaporean Jerome Aw Jin Ming, 11-4, 11-4, 11-7, while Ong beat Filipino Reymark Begornia, 11-3, 11-6, 11-2.

In the all-Malaysia women's singles final, Ainaa Amani downed Yiwen Chan, 11-2, 11-2, 8-11, 11-6.

Amani beat Filipino Jemyca Aribado, 6-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-2, while Chan outplayed Indonesian Raifa Putri Yattaqi, 11-6, 11-6, 11-3, in the semifinal round.

Meanwhile, Aribado and Yvonne Alyssa Dalida downed Lizette Reyes and Aerra Mae Relano, 11-6, 11-2 to advance in the women's jumbo doubles category.

Aribado and Dalida will face Singaporeans Aaliya Abuthinin and Zi Fang Lee, who rallied past Indonesia, 9-11, 11-5, 11-4, in the semifinals on Thursday.

In the men's jumbo doubles category, Singaporeans Clement Hung and Regan Tan trounced Thais Arkaradet Arkarahirunya and Nopchanok Buranakul, 11-4, 11-4, to arrange a semifinal showdown with Begornia and David William Pelino. The Filipino pair drew a bye.

In the mixed jumbo doubles category, Filipinos David Gabrielle Garcia and Relano clobbered Thais Thitivuth Yingcharoen and Sakonwan Kuhaudomlarp, 11-5, 11-6, to advance in the semifinal against Pelino and Aribado.

In the Under 23 jumbo doubles category, Filipinos Christopher Buraga and Jonathan Reyes defeated Singaporeans Muhammad Azzikri and Jabar Ahmad Syarifatul, 11-9, 11-9 to forge a title clash with compatriots Van Aero Dalida and Meljohn Arebado, who survived Thais Natthapat Theerasilp and Ravipun Limphaiboon, 11-6, 7-11, 11-8.
