ROME – About 50 migrants are missing after the sailing boat on which they were travelling capsized about 100 miles off the coast of Calabria, Italian coastguard sources said Monday.

A merchant ship came to the boat's rescue and subsequently transferred the 12 surviving migrants onto a Coast Guard unit that then landed in Roccella Ionica in Calabria.

The body of a woman who died after falling into the sea also arrived in port.

The search for the missing persons has now been activated, but at the moment, none have been recovered. (ANSA)
