Fuel surcharge down to Level 5 in July

MANILA – Fuel surcharge drops to Level 5 next month, down one notch from Level 6 since March, which translates to lower airfares.

Under Level 5, the fuel surcharge for a one-way domestic flight ranges from PHP151 to PHP542, and from PHP498.03 to PHP3,703.11 for a one-way international flight, depending on the distance.

This is lower compared to the PHP185 to PHP665 for domestic flights and PHP610.37 to PHP4,538.4 for international flights fuel surcharge under Level 6.

"We welcome the Civil Aeronautics Board's (CAB) decision to decrease the fuel surcharge. This positive step makes air travel more affordable for passengers and boosts demand as we enter the third quarter," Cebu Pacific president Xander Lao said.

Lao said they are excited to fly more people to their dream destinations with the Gokongwei-led airline's low fares, ongoing promotions, and new routes, such as Kaohsiung and San Vicente, Palawan.

In an advisory signed on June 18 but posted on the CAB's website on Friday, it said airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge must file their application with the Office of the Executive Director on or before the effectivity period.

The applicable conversion rate for July 1 to 31 is USD1 is to PHP58.07.

Fuel surcharge is the extra fee that airlines may collect in addition to the base fare, to balance the welfare of both the airlines and passengers when prices of things essential to flight operations increase. (PNA)
