LAOAG CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in partnership with commercial establishments here has started to roll out the Balik Eskwela Diskwento caravan ahead of the July 29 opening of classes.
DTI-Ilocos Norte provincial director Amelia Galvez, in an interview Thursday, said the month-long caravan aims to provide great deals and discounts on school supplies and other essentials before the opening of classes to give students and parents, especially the low-income earners, the opportunity to buy school supplies and uniforms at discounted prices.
"For the whole month of July, the discount caravan will be available in Pandayan Bookshop, Mart One Department Store, Puregold, and SM Hypermart,” she said.
The local government unit of Solsona town, located in the easternmost part of the province, has also partnered with the DTI for the conduct of a discount caravan on Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Federico F. De Lara Civic Center so that school children and their parents no longer need to travel for an hour to Laoag City to buy their needs.
Other local government units in the province have also requested the conduct of the Balik-Eskwela Diskwento caravan in their respective areas for small and medium entrepreneurs or suppliers to promote and sell their products at discounted prices, normally ranging from 10 to 50 percent of the regular prices in the market.
