SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao del Sur – An alleged "big-time drug peddler" died when he resisted arrest during a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Poblacion here, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said Friday.
Jocelyn Mary, PDEA spokesperson for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-BARMM), said an undercover agent managed to secure a sachet of suspected shabu from the peddler, identified only as “Denz,” following the 3 p.m. operation on Thursday.
“After the drugs and money handover, the peddler noticed the approaching PDEA agents, pulled a pistol, and opened fire on anti-narcotics operatives as he fled, forcing state agents to return fire,” Mary said in her report.
Denz was cornered and eventually died from gunshot wounds, while his still unidentified companion managed to escape unharmed.
Mary said one of the PDEA agents was injured but is now in stable condition in a hospital.
A 50-gram shabu with a market value of PHP340,000 was seized from the slain drug peddler, marked money, and a handgun. (PNA)
