Plebiscite for creation of new S. Cotabato village set July 13

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will hold on Saturday (July 13) the plebiscite for the creation of another barangay (village) in Tupi, South Cotabato.

In a social media post on Friday, the poll body said 9,765 registered voters from the town's Barangays Miasong, Cebuano, and Linan are set to cast their votes in 20 clustered precincts in five voting centers.

These are the Cebuano Elementary School in Barangay Cebuano; Lote North Elementary School in Sitio Lote North, Barangay Cebuano; Ricardo O. Avila Memorial Elementary School in Barangay Linan; Miasong Elementary School in Barangay Miasong; and Benigno Aquino Elementary School in Sitio Benigno, Barangay Miasong.

The voters will decide on whether to create or not a barangay to be named Barangay Juan-Loreto Tamayo. They will need to write "Yes" or "Oo" on the ballot, if they agree, or "No" or "Hindi" if they oppose the proposal.

Voting will start at 7 a.m. and will close at 3 p.m. The counting and canvassing of votes shall immediately begin at the close of voting hours.

The plebiscite will be held in accordance with Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 158 - 2023 approved in February 2023.

The resolution proposes that Sitio Kitubo and Sitio Lamlatang of Barangay Miasong; Sitio Pato and Sitio Landayaw of Barangay Cebuano; Sitio Alpha of Barangay Linan would be known as Barangay Juan-Loreto Tamayo. (PNA)
