LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Health-Center for Health Development in Bicol (DOH-CHD-5) and the National Nutrition Council (NNC) urged on Friday the local government units (LGUs) in Bicol to implement the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) from the provincial level down to the barangay levels.

In a media release, the DOH Bicol stressed that the PPAN will guide efforts to address malnutrition challenges and ensure adequate and appropriate nutrition through focused policies and programs.

The PPAN aims to significantly reduce protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) in youth, chronic energy deficiency (CED) in the elderly, and micronutrient deficiencies in all populations.

The programs under PPAN include establishing vegetable gardens in schools, communities, and workplaces, as well as setting up Kadiwa outlets in communities.

PPAN also promotes a healthy lifestyle for pregnant women and provides improved services for the protection of children, including the family feeding program.

The plan aims to ensure that all Filipinos have access to adequate food and nutrition through good governance and nutrition policies.

The PPAN strategy aims to decrease the prevalence of stunted and overweight individuals, ensuring sufficient nutrition for all. (PNA)
