TACLOBAN CITY – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has deployed at least 3,668 personnel to conduct the 2024 Census of Population (PopCen) and Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) in 4,390 villages in Eastern Visayas.

PSA Eastern Visayas Regional Director Wilma Perante said enumerators will interview each family for 45 minutes to one hour to gather vital information and update the inventory of the country’s population, as well as the list of beneficiaries of social protection initiatives.

Of the 3,668 field personnel tasked with carrying out two major surveys, 2,961 are enumerators, 537 are team supervisors, and 170 are area supervisors.

“To optimize government resources and to avoid fatigue for respondents, the PSA deems it necessary to integrate the PopCen with the CBMS operations ahead of its original schedule in 2025. We encourage active participation from all sectors of society to achieve the success of this nationwide statistical activity,” Perante said in an interview Monday.

Data gathering started on Monday and will run until September 2024. The results of the survey are targeted to be released by the first quarter of 2025.

Aside from finding out the actual population count and recipients of social protection programs, the data collected from the 2024 PopCen-CBMS will also serve as the basis for targeting households in the planning, formulation and implementation of programs and projects geared toward poverty alleviation.

The major data items to be collected in this survey are core demographic characteristics, other demographic characteristics, migration, education, economic characteristics, health, food security, assistance from abroad, formal financial account, negative shocks and disaster preparedness, internet access, public safety, social protection and assistance programs, water, sanitation and hygiene, housing characteristics, access to public transportation, and residence status.

As of May 1, 2020, the region had a population of 4,547,150 based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing. This accounts for about 4.17 percent of the Philippine population for the year. (PNA)
