SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The PHP2.5 million worth of speedboat and four sets of scuba gear turned over to the Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) on Monday will boost its operational and search and rescue capability.

Antique Lone District Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda led the turnover at the provincial police headquarters. He said the assistance was funded under the Congress Initiated Changes Adjustment (CICA), consisting of PHP2 million for the speedboat and PHP500,000 for the scuba diving gears composed of snorkel, bootie, and dive cylinder, among others.

“I do hope that the turnover of the speed boat and scuba gear will boost the morale of our police,” Legarda said in his message.

He added that APPO must get equipped and ready to respond to sea emergencies since 14 of its 18 municipalities are in the coastal areas.

Community Affairs Development Unit chief Police Lt. Col. Willy Diel, in his message, said the assets bolster their unwavering commitment to protecting the Antique vicinity and enable them to respond to emergency evacuations in local government units (LGUs) like flooding.

“While the coast of Antique is a source of livelihood (for fishermen), but then it also makes the province prone to emergencies,” he said.

Antique Police Provincial Director Col. Leah Rose Peña, together with Diel and Deputy Director for Administration Police Lieutenant Col. Angelo Pueblos, received the equipment.  (PNA)
