CEBU CITY – Over PHP17 million worth of illegal drugs were confiscated during the two-day simultaneous anti-criminality operations in Central Visayas, even as the police was occupied securing the Palarong Pambansa.

Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Region 7, said that 158 suspects were arrested on July 12 to 14.

The police confiscated 2.4 kilos of shabu worth PHP16.9 million and 850 ampules of pain reliever Nubain worth PHP340,000.

“As we’ve mentioned, while we were securing the Palarong Pambansa 2024, we never stopped in our usual police functions. One of them is the conduct of police operations against drugs and other forms of criminality,” Pelare told reporters here.

During the same period, the police conducted 121 anti-illegal gambling operations, resulting in the arrest of 191 gamblers and the seizure of PHP17,747 gambling money.

The police likewise launched 110 operations against individuals in possession of firearms without licenses, resulting in the seizure of 109 loose firearms.

All suspects have been charged in court, he said. (PNA)
