SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – Lawyer Paul Joseph Untaran is the newest addition to the municipal council of this capital town of Antique after taking his oath before Governor Rhodora Cadiao on Tuesday.
Untaran filled in the vacated seat in the council after Vice Mayor Justin Encarnacion and first councilor Amor Dolor occupied the next posts by succession following the death of the late Mayor Elmer Untaran due to a lingering illness on July 2.
Encarnacion and Dolor took their oath on July 3 as mayor and vice mayor, respectively.
He said Councilor Untaran, the son of the late mayor, would be an asset to his administration because he is a lawyer.
“We need a lawyer at the municipal council who could help, particularly in the legislation,” Encarnacion said in an interview on Wednesday.
Untaran got the endorsement of the municipal council and the Municipal Liga ng mga Barangay to occupy the vacant seat in the council.
“On July 22, Municipal Councilor Untaran will already attend his first regular session,” Encarnacion said.
Encarnacion added that they will pursue the priority programs and projects of the late mayor, like the drainage system, particularly at the San Jose Tradetown to mitigate flooding, feeder port improvement to cater to more sea vessels, and further improve the sanitary landfill at Barangay Pantao.
