MANILA – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Monday announced the recent arrest of a Chinese computer hacker who worked a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub raided by authorities in Porac, Pampanga last month.

In a statement, BI fugitive search unit (FSU) chief Rendel Ryan Sy identified the foreigner as 40-year-old Lin Qiude, who was arrested on July 20 inside a posh resort inside the Poro Point Freeport in San Fernando City, La Union.

According to Chinese authorities, he is a subject of a warrant of detention issued by the public prosecutor in Anxi County in Fujian province where he was charged with fraud.

Sy said that aside from being a fugitive in China, Lin is also wanted by local authorities for being suspected as one of the hackers employed by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC)-raided hub in Porac.

Authorities suspect that the foreigner is responsible for hacking the bank accounts of victims based in the US, Middle East and Europe.

The Chinese national is now detained at the BI custodial facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings and filing of cases against him.

The operation was conducted in cooperation with intelligence groups from the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. (PNA)
