MANILA – The Manila city government on Tuesday suspended classes in elementary and high school in private schools due to inclement weather brought by Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat).

In a social media post, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna said due to the Yellow Rainfall Warning issued by the weather bureau, classes are suspended.

“Stay safe, everyone,” Lacuna said.

Yellow Warning (7.5 mm to 15 mm of rainfall observed within one hour and expected to continue in the next 2 hours) is issued to areas where heavy downpour is expected.

In its tropical cyclone bulletin at 5 a.m, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said
Carina, last tracked 380 km. east of Aparri, Cagayan, would also cause scattered rain showers over Cagayan Valley and Aurora.

Meanwhile, classes in the city's public schools will start next week. (PNA)
