MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. praised the country's national grassroots and sports-for-all programs during his 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City on Monday.

"Grassroots and sports-for-all programs are back in the mainstream, catering to Filipinos of all ages," the President said, noting that these programs provide a platform for identifying future national athletes and promote health and wellness, particularly among the youth.

Marcos also thanked Marikina City (2023) and Cebu City (2024) for hosting the Palarong Pambansa, the country's biggest sports competition for elementary and high school students.

"As we speak, 28 of our finest athletes are competing in Paris now for the glory of the Philippines,” he said.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Richard Bachmann on Tuesday thanked the President for his dedication to boosting sports development from the grassroots to elite levels.

Bachmann highlighted the commission’s efforts to implement various programs for the youth, women, indigenous sector, and national training pool in line with the government's campaign for inclusivity.

He also noted the improvement of sports facilities to ensure that the training of athletes is not hampered.

"The PSC remains instrumental in advancing the Bagong Pilipinas governance of the Marcos administration. We are committed to extending government services across the country, ensuring that our policies benefit all sports stakeholders and support every aspiring athlete in achieving their goals for their families and the nation," Bachmann said.
