Central Visayas lifters rule PRISAA National Games

LEGAZPI CITY – Central Visayas captured 16 gold medals in the final day of the 2024 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games weightlifting competition at the Gogon Central School here Wednesday.

Bohol Institute of Technology's June Michael Jaluag, a relative of Southeast Asian (SEA) Games medalist and current national coach Nicolas, dominated the snatch (85kg), clean and jerk (105kg), and total (216kg) to secure three gold medals in the men's 94kg category.

Czar Angelo Bangoy of Holy Trinity College in General Santos City (Soccsksargen) took the silver medals in snatch (70kg), clean and jerk (100kg), and total (170kg) while Jhon Benedict Jacob of Naga College Foundation (Bicol Region) settled for the bronze medals in snatch (50kg), clean and jerk (75kg), and total (125kg).

University of Cebu's Jhon Dexter Tabique, a member of the national team, had a total lift of 305kg (140kg-165kg) in the men's 94+kg category.

University of Bohol's James Webster secured the silver medals in clean and jerk (96kg) and total (176kg), and the bronze in snatch (80kg), while Christian Deniel Matadling (Soccsksargen) got the silver in snatch (80kg) and the bronzes in clean and jerk (95kg) and total (175kg).

Jeremy Moral of the Philippine Maritime Institute (PMI) also captured three gold medals in the men's 87kg category with a total of 215kg (95kg-120kg), while Jar-ar Bantillan of Soccsksargen posted 155kg (70kg-85kg) for the silver medals.

PMI's Davelloyd Pacaldo, another member of the national team, tallied 266kg (120kg-146kg) in the men's 68kg category, while schoolmate John Raphael Macato won the men's 74kg category with a total of 246kg (115kg-130kg).

Bicol Region produced nine gold medals coming from Naga College Foundation students Mateo Noel Falcon (boys 68kg), Venn Emil Quiros (boys 73kg), and Aljo Augie Bibe (boys 54kg).  (PNA)
