Ilocos Norte sustains P66-M damage from Carina

LAOAG CITY – The province of Ilocos Norte sustained around PHP66 million infrastructure damage from Typhoon Carina, while initial damage to agriculture reached PHP 481,000, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said Wednesday evening.

Based on the report, there are 851 affected families consisting of 2,675 individuals, at least 11 persons remained in evacuation sites.

At least two houses were partially damaged due to a landslide and a fallen tree in this city.

Marcell Tabije, Ilocos Norte local disaster risk reduction and management officer, said the public is advised to stay vigilant as Super Typhoon Carina intensifies while on its way to Northern Taiwan, packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kilometers per hour.

As of this posting, the northern portion of Ilocos Norte covering the towns of Burgos, Bangui, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, and Adams is still under tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1.

Bus trips

Due to reports of flooding in Metro Manila, trips of GV Florida Transport Inc. buses  from Sampaloc and Cubao to Ilocos and Cagayan and vice versa have been suspended on Wednesday afternoon.

“We are closely monitoring the situation, please standby for updates regarding resumption of trips. Passengers who have made reservations will be able to reschedule their tickets at no additional cost once travel operations resume,” the management announced in an online post.(PNA
