MANILA – The Senate Spouses Foundation, Inc. (SSFI) on Friday distributed relief packs to some 2,600 residents of Marikina City who were displaced by flood brought by Super Typhoon Carina.

The relief operation was led by SSFI President Heart Evangelista-Escudero, SSFI officers Special Envoy to the United Arab Emirates for Trade and Investment Kathryna Yu-Pimentel, Nancy Dela Rosa, and Department of Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar.

"Kami po sa Senate Spouses Foundation, Inc., mga instrumento lang po kami para makatulong at maipagpatuloy ang pagbibigay ng biyaya (We in the SSFI are just instruments to help and continue to provide relief)," Evangelista-Escudero said as she thanked companies and individuals who donated goods to the foundation.

At the Sto. Niño Elementary School, a total of 472 affected families received bags containing rice, canned goods, vitamin C tablets and other essential food products. They were also given sleeping kits, toiletries, while women evacuees received hygiene kits.

Buckets containing cleaning products were also distributed to help clean up their typhoon-ravaged households.

The SSFI was supposed to hold a back-to-school activity for 1,000 students of Leodegario Victorino Elementary School in Marikina Sports Complex, but was postponed due to the typhoon.

"We need to postpone the back-to-school project tomorrow. Our schools in Marikina are still jampacked with evacuees. I think Marikina will be back to normal by next week at the earliest," Yu-Pimentel announced to reporters on Thursday. (PNA)
