SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The PHP200 million newly inaugurated Nasuli bridge will further boost the tourism and economy of the municipality of San Remigio.

Mayor Margarito Mission Jr. said in an interview Monday that the bridge connects eight villages, namely Vilvar, Baladjay, Carawisan 1, Carawisan 2, Carmelo 1, Carmelo 2, Magdalena, and General to Barangay Nasuli and to the town proper.

“The bridge is also part of the ongoing Panay East-West Lateral Road project of the DPWH that will connect San Remigio to Valderrama to Lambunao, Iloilo,” he said.

He said that with the interconnectivity, tourists from the city and province of Iloilo will have another route going to San Remigio.

Senator Loren Legarda said San Remigio, known as the Little Baguio of Antique because of its cool climate and beautiful mountain sceneries, will soon become the Baguio of Panay.

Legarda led the inauguration of the project together with Lone District Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda and Department of Public Works and Highways Assistant Regional Director Al Fruto on Saturday.

“You can then put up a sunrise view deck and establishments around the area. People can have an income because of the tourists,” Legarda said in her message.

Barangay Carawisan chief Rubie Legazpi said bringing their agricultural products to the market is more accessible and parents don’t have to worry for the safety of their children because they need not cross a river anymore.

“Before, we could not help but worry about the safety of our children who had to cross the river, especially during rainy days, just to attend their classes in their schools in the town proper,” she said.  (PNA)
