P5-B infra, agri damage reported due to weather disturbances

MANILA – The amount of damage to infrastructure and agriculture damage from the effects of the southwest monsoon and Typhoons Butchoy and Carina has exceeded PHP5 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.

Agricultural damage has reached PHP1.082 billion in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), according to the agency's latest situation report.

Meanwhile, the disaster response body said infrastructure damage amounted to PHP4.09 billion in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, BARMM and the Cordillera.

Some 2,127 houses were damaged in 15 regions, it added.

A total of 1,421,224 families or 5,263,531 persons in 4,539 barangays across the country have been affected by the recent calamity.

The death toll stands at 39 -- 14 of whom have been validated as of this time. (PNA)
