DAVAO CITY – Some PHP1.1 million in prize money await the champion for the open category of the "Indak-indak" (street-dancing) in this year's Kadayawan Festival, organizers said.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, Harold Quibete, the event organizer for Pamulak sa Kadayawan and Indak-Indak, said the prize is much higher than PHP100,000 compared to the past year.

The “Indak-indak” competition – under open and Davao school-based categories – will be conducted on Aug. 18, together with the festival’s closing day.

Quibete said the prize for the champion in the school-based category remains at PHP1 million.

“The budget for Indak-indak and Pamulak sa Kadayawan is slightly lower than last year because we merged the two events. It’s almost PHP10 million this year, exclusive of all the prizes and awards,” he said.

Currently, 17 contingents are joining the Indak-indak, while 18 corporate floats have submitted their entries for the Pamulak competition.

“We are finalizing the entries for the competition. The deadline for submitting entries for Pamulak sa Kadayawan is extended until August 7,” Quibete said.

For the Pamulak event, he said the prize for the Dako (big) category remains at PHP800,000 and PHP600,000 for the Gamay (small) category. (PNA)
