CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Northern Mindanao (BFAR-10) has called on fishermen to join cooperatives and participate in the agency's clustering and consolidation program.

"This will address the difficulty and needs of the fishery sector in access to capital, technology, and new methods (in fishing practices),” BFAR-10 (Northern Mindanao) Assistant Director Marlou Fernandez said in a statement on Wednesday.

BFAR conducted the first Regional Fisheries Clustering and Consolidation Conference in this city on Tuesday.

During the forum, Fernandez stressed that clustering and consolidating fisherfolk cooperatives in every province would maximize the government's efforts to provide efficient service.

He also said clustering can benefit fisher groups by providing better pricing and profit gains in the market.

The conference highlighted the emerging sustainable technologies in fisheries, providing participants with valuable insights into future trends in the industry.

Raquel Simborio, marketing chair of the Holy Trinity Fisherfolk Association in Sagay, Camiguin, said they are grateful that their group is one of the program's beneficiaries, noting that their members learned about processing their products and market matching. (PNA)
