CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The local government of Iligan City has received at least PHP7.9 billion in investment commitments particularly focused on technology and innovation.

In a statement Wednesday, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Lanao del Norte focal staff Melody Anne Donio said the pledges resulted from the local government's vision of a "Smart Industropolis of the South," which is supported by their agency.

"Iligan City is one of the 80 pilot local government units of DOST's Smart and Sustainable Communities Program, or the SMART Program," Donio said, adding that it is anchored on digital transformation and resiliency through technology and innovation.

On July 19, Iligan City organized the 1st Iligan Investment Roadshow at EDSA Shangri-La in Manila, showcasing the city's strengths and business opportunities, particularly in information communication technology, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure.

Mayor Frederick Siao said that since 2022, the local government implemented robust economic initiatives and fostered international collaborations.

"Striving significant growth, stability, and investors’ confidence have returned, and our digitized system bolsters public trust," he said in a statement.

Under the program, DOST-10 supported the funding for eCitizen's PH App of Iligan's Township Innovation Management Application (TIMApp), which empowers citizens with features like reporting emergencies, accessing government services, and connecting with emergency hotlines.

Last year, the city hosted the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week, which featured technologies and innovations that can promote human well-being, wealth creation and protection, and sustainability. (PNA)
