MANILA – Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Alfredo Pascual said Wednesday the agency has confiscated PHP44 million worth of uncertified household appliances in Plaridel, Bulacan.

This is so far the biggest haul of uncertified products by the DTI’s Task Force Kalasag, a task force formed to crack down on uncertified products nationwide.

To date, the task force’s confiscated uncertified goods has reached PHP118 million.

“Ever since Task Force Kalasag became active for operations just over three months ago, enforcement gains have been increasing in yield one after another,” Pascual said in a statement.

“Retailers and businesses that do not comply with regulatory and safety standards for products are effectively warned. They must deal only with suppliers of legitimate products,” the DTI chief reminded establishment owners.

He also called on consumers to check the quality of products and ensure that there are Philippine Standard (PS) marks and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers in the regulated products, including home appliances.

“Consumer vigilance will always be complementary to DTI’s commitment to eliminate substandard and unregulated products from the market,” Pascual said. (PNA)
