MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) honored a police officer who was shot dead by a minor whom he accosted for a curfew violation in Mandaue City in Cebu.

PNP chief, Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, conferred the posthumous PNP Heroism Medal to the late S/Sgt. Orvin Seth Felicio during his visit to the officer's wake in Cebu City on Wednesday, the PNP Public Information Office said in a news release Thursday.

Before the PNP chief's visit, the slain police officer's family has already received financial aid from the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Incorporated (PSMBFI), Police Regional Office 7 (Central Visayas), and various PNP units in the region.

Meanwhile, additional benefits for the bereaved family from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Savings and Loan Association, Inc. (AFPSLAI), the Public Safety Savings and Loan Association, Inc. (PSSLAI), the National Police Commission (Napolcom), and the Comprehensive Social Benefits Program are currently being processed.

Felicio died on July 27 after he was shot multiple times by an armed minor using an unlicensed firearm. He was off-duty when he apprehended the minor.

The minor suspect later surrendered to one of his teachers, who later turned him over to the police station along with the gun used in the crime.

Felicio, a father of two children, joined the PNP in 2008.

Marbil also handed over financial assistance from the PNP to Felicio’s family and extended his condolences.

“PSSg Felicio's bravery and dedication to duty epitomize the selflessness and heroism that define the men and women of the PNP. His ultimate sacrifice serves as a solemn reminder of the risks our police officers face daily in their commitment to ensuring public safety and order," Marbil said. (PNA)
