MANILA – The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday logged 86 percent of its target enrollment during the second week since the opening of classes.

According to the DepEd’s Planning Service – Education Management Information System, 23,845,025 out of the target 27,722,835 enrollees for the school year 2024-2025 have been recorded from elementary to senior high school (SHS) levels in all public and private schools nationwide.

These include 280,736 enrollees in the Alternative Learning System (ALS).

To date, the highest number of learners was logged in Calabarzon with 3,464,861 enrollees; followed by Central Luzon with 2,528,831 enrollees, and Metro Manila with 2,472,198 enrollees.

Media Relations Chief Dennis Legazpi, however, reported the suspension of classes in 42 schools in Malabon due to the high tide and heavy rains late Sunday.

All schools that have earlier postponed their school opening have already started classes, he said in a Viber message.

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, meanwhile, presided over the oath-taking of the first batch of new education officials.

The batch includes DepEd Undersecretary Peter Irving Corvera, Undersecretary Trygve Olaivar, Undersecretary Mel John Verzosa, and Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma. (PNA)
