MANILA – The establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is a testament that even some of the most complex conflicts could be resolved through constructive dialogue, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has said.

JICA President Akihiko Tanaka said the success of the Mindanao peace process can serve as an effective model for regions affected by conflicts, including in the Middle East and Europe.

“As we celebrate the progress made in Mindanao, we must also reaffirm and be ready to share the significance of this achievement in a broader global context,” he said in a symposium commemorating the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro in Tokyo on Aug. 7.

“In this landscape of uncertainty and turmoil, the Mindanao peace process stands out as a beacon of hope, a testament to the enduring power of dialogue.”

Amid the upcoming historic Bangsamoro Parliament Election and the anticipated establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Government in June 2025, Tanaka reaffirmed JICA’s continuous development support for Mindanao.

“JICA joins all stakeholders in hoping for a future where the Bangsamoro people can truly unite and build a prosperous and peaceful region – a Consolidated Bangsamoro,” he said. (PNA)
