CEBU CITY – The Philippine National Police (PNP) in this capital city assured an improved safety and security administration with the groundbreaking for a new building set for next month, the top police official here said on Friday.

Col. Antonietto Cañete, the newly installed chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said the new PNP building would be constructed inside Camp Sotero Cabahug on Gorordo Avenue here.

Cañete’s assurance came as Acting Mayor Raymond Garcia announced during Thursday’s command conference that the building would be funded with at least PHP50 million from the capital outlay of the city government's peace and order program.

The acting mayor said the bidding for the construction of the new PNP building will take place this month, followed by the groundbreaking in September.

“We will be breaking ground for the new CCPO building. This is after three years of planning,” he told the Philippine News Agency here.

Meanwhile, Garcia said he would also check on the conditions of the service firearms of the police assigned in the city. (PNA)
