ILOILO CITY – The PHP7.6 million assistance under the Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) benefitted 2,550 city residents during the two-day payout in a mall in this city that ended on Friday.
AKAP was intended for the “near poor” segment of society under the low-income category severely affected by rising inflation.
The Office of Lone District Rep. Julienne Baronda facilitated the distribution, with each recipient receiving PHP3,000.
“We can feel many are hard up this month of August. That is why we try our best to help our people through AKAP. Through this, they have a little extra money to spend on their needs. Through this, we can make them feel the care and love of the government for its people,” said Cong. Jam-Jam Baronda in a statement.
One of the recipients was a person with disability, Reynaldo Paguntalan, accompanied by his niece, Cecile Batuigas.
“This assistance will help my uncle buy his medicines. Thank you very much to the government for this assistance,” Batuigas said.
Last month, the agency also facilitated the release of PHP3 million for 1,000 city residents under the same program. (PNA)
