Golden Tigresses roll to 3rd V-League win

MANILA – University of Santo Tomas outplayed Far Eastern University, 25-23, 25-16, 25-13, to grab its third straight victory and the solo lead in the 2024 V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge at Paco Arena in Manila on Sunday.

Angeline Poyos and Regine Grace scored 14 and 11 points, respectively. Mary Margaret Banagua contributed eight points on four blocks, three attacks and an ace.

“Maganda 'yung galaw eh. Na-minimize namin 'yung errors namin… Everything was right in place (They moved well. We minimized our errors... Everything was right in place)," UST coach Kungfu Reyes said after the match.

Gerzel Mary Petallo led the Lady Tamaraws (1-2) with eight points while Jean Asis and Jazlyn Ellarina added seven each.

UST will face College of St. Benilde on Aug. 25, while FEU will clash with winless Lyceum on Aug. 14.

In the other game, CSB defeated University of the Philippines, 25-13, 25-22, 25-21, for its first win after a 0-2 start.

Wielyn Estoque finished with 14 points on 11 attacks, two blocks and an ace fot the Lady Blazers.

Zamantha Nolasco chipped in eight attacks and three blocks while Shahanna Rheign Lleses added 10 points, including two aces.

“Marami, marami pa dapat i-improve. Any kind of win is a big boost. Sino man kalaban natin next (There is much, much more to improve. Any kind of win is a big boost. Whoever our opponent is next), we have to be prepared),” CSB coach Jerry Yee said.

Middle blocker Kassandra Doering had 10 attacks and two blocks for the Fighting Maroons, who took their second loss against two wins.

CSB will battle Letran on Aug. 18 while UP will clash with University of the East on Aug. 21 at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig. (PNA)
