MANILA – A segment of the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) will remain toll-free until the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) approves the resumption of toll collection, the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) said Tuesday.
In a statement, the PRA said the toll holiday declared by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for all CAVITEX segments in Parañaque, Las Piñas, Taguig, Bacoor, and Kawit ended on July 31.
“However, all motorists coming from Cavite exiting to Segment 2 of C-5 Link and vice versa remains toll-free and continues to benefit thousands of motorists,” it said.
The PRA noted a rise in the average daily vehicle count across all segments of CAVITEX – from 171,000 to 200,000 – during the toll holiday
“This uptick underscores the positive externalities associated with improved infrastructure, as the new segment is anticipated to enhance travel efficiency and reduce transaction costs and traveling time for commuters, thereby boosting overall economic productivity,” it said.
On June 21, Marcos led the inauguration and groundbreaking of several portions of CAVITEX.
He thanked the PRA for recommending a 30-day toll holiday in all segments of the expressway to ease financial pressure on motorists amid the continued rise in fuel costs.
The toll holiday, he said, would also help introduce the newly built segments to motorists. (PNA)
