LEGAZPI CITY – The Social Security System (SSS) Legazpi City branch is expecting to collect PHP1.095 million in unpaid contributions from seven delinquent employers.

The amount to be collected will benefit 112 employees of three restaurants, a printing shop, a private school, a gasoline station and a travel agency.

In a press conference on Friday, Jogar Tosoc, SSS Legazpi branch head, said the seven employers committed to remit the unpaid contribution when the agency recently conducted the "Run After Contribution Evaders" (RACE) operations.

RACE aims to instill awareness and discipline among employers of their statutory obligations.

"As we always say every time we conduct RACE, this is not a shame campaign but a way to reach out to our employers and remind them of the available services of the agency that they can avail of in order not to go to more court and legal matters," Tosoc said.

Four more RACE operations will be conducted for the rest of the year, the official said.

Under the Social Security Act, employers are responsible not only for withholding the employee portion of the social security contributions but also must pay their share of contributions and should remit them regularly. (PNA)
