CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) released PHP2.4 million for the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program to a far-flung village here on Tuesday.
DOLE Misamis Oriental Director Emmanuel Toledo handed the cheque to Barangay Tagpangi chief Chenet Marianas, benefiting 563 temporary workers.
Tagpangi, an upland village, is predominantly inhabited by the Higaonon tribe.
First District Councilor Jose Pepe Abbu Jr. said other villages in the city already received their TUPAD salaries.
TUPAD is a community-based program that provides emergency employment for displaced, underemployed and seasonal workers for a minimum of 10 days.
"The first batch of beneficiaries from Barangay Pagatpat, San Simon, Canitoan, and Balulang, who were validated in June, received their salary after 10 days of work," Toledo said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the DOLE Cagayan de Oro Field Office initiated the Food Always in the Home (Faith) initiative for 6,523 TUPAD beneficiaries.
It is an additional measure to help households maintain container or communal gardens of vegetables.
"It is a good initiative for DOLE because it addresses hunger," Barangay Gusa chairperson Marlou Tabac said. (PNA)
