CEBU CITY  Central Visayas residents can expect intensified milk production in the region as the national government bolsters its dispersal program through the Herd Build-Up program for farmers, an official said on Thursday.

Brian Desiderio, officer-in-charge assistant department manager at the National Dairy Authority in Central Visayas (NDA-7), said the agency is now intensifying distribution of dairy cows and goats to qualified farmers in the region.

These farmers are accredited by the NDA to produce milk for local distribution.

"The Herd Buil-Up program is aimed to bolster local production of dairy milk. In this program, we need to strengthen the dispersal of cows and goats as local milk sources," Desiderio said.

Part of the program, he said, is to upgrade the existing herd of dairy cows and goats through artificial insemination from semen of 100 percent Holstein-Friesian breed of cows.

Upgraded breeds of cows will be distributed to qualified dairy farmers in the region.

Dairy goat farmers are also using Anglo-Nubians and Saanens as best breed for goat's milk. (PNA)
