MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday wished the six Filipino para-athletes “best of luck” as they participate in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

“Compete with the heart of Filipino warriors, and show the world the strength of our people. We are all immensely proud of you. Best of luck, and Mabuhay ang Team Pilipinas (long live, Team Philippines),” Marcos said in a Facebook post.

Taekwondo jin Allain Ganapin, swimmers Angel Mae Otom and Ernie Gawilan, track and field athletes Jerrold Mangliwan and Cendy Asusano, and archer Agustina Bantiloc will represent the Philippines in the 17th Paralympic Games in Paris, France.

The Paralympic games were formally opened on Thursday (Philippine time) at the Place de la Concorde to Champs-Élysées in Paris.

Bantiloc will kick off the Philippine campaign when she competes in the women’s individual compound event at Esplanade des Invalides archery range.

Marcos told the six Filipino para-athletes that they are “already champions in our eyes” as they represent the country in the Paris Paralympic Games.

“Your commitment to your training as elite athletes, despite challenges you face, exemplifies the spirit of the Filipino people,” he said.

“No accolade, praise, or reward can truly return the pride you bring to our country. As you take on the world stage at Paralympics, remember that the whole nation is with you, supporting you every step of the way,” Marcos added.

In his National Heroes’ Day message on Monday, Marcos hailed the Filipino Paralympians joining the Paris Paralympics for being a “symbol of hope” for all Filipinos. (PNA)
