PCO vows to unite with media in ‘fight for truth’

MANILA – The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Friday expressed its commitment to help the media fight for the truth by preventing the spread of misinformation and disinformation.

This, as the PCO joined the nation in celebrating the National Press Freedom Day.

In a Facebook post, the PCO assured the public of its dedication to delivering “clear and timely” communications about government initiatives and policies, as part of the efforts to keep the Filipinos informed and empowered under a “Bagong Pilipinas” (New Philippines).

“We pledge to uphold and promote press freedom, support efforts to combat misinformation and disinformation and ensure that journalists can operate effectively,” the PCO said.

“Together, we stand united in the fight for truth and the essential role of a free, independent, and responsible press in strengthening our democracy and citizenry,” it added.

By virtue of Republic Act (RA) 11699, August 30 of every year is declared National Press Freedom Day in honor of Marcelo H. del Pilar, the father of Philippine Journalism.

The PCO also paid tribute to Del Pilar and reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate information and promoting transparency.

It also echoed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call to fight for the truth. (PNA)
