MANILA – Malacañang announced the suspension of government work in the National Capital Region on Monday due to bad weather caused by Tropical Storm "Enteng".
The work suspension is effective 8:30 am, the Office of the Executive Secretary said in a statement.
“The suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads,” it added.
The Palace earlier suspended classes at all levels in Metro Manila also due to the heavy rains caused by Enteng, the country's fifth tropical cyclone for this year.
Several areas in Luzon, including Metro Manila, are now under tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) No. 2 as of 8 a.m.
Enteng packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph was last tracked over the coastal waters of Vinzons, Camarines Norte.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, meanwhile, suspended the number coding scheme in the region.
Meanwhile, the water level at the Marikina River is now 16.8 meters (second alarm) as of 9:10 a.m. following torrential rain since Sunday evening.
Marikina City was one of the hardest-hit cities during the onslaught of super typhoon Carina last July 24, causing the river to swell and eventually flooding several barangays.
The Senate has also announced work suspension.
"In view of the inclement weather caused by Tropical Storm Enteng, Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero has declared suspension of work at the Senate today, Monday, 2 September 2024. Session will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 September 2024, at 3:00 p.m.," Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. said in an advisory. (PNA)
