BUTUAN CITY – At least 362 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Caraga Region have benefited from the government’s “Balik Pilipinas, Balik Hanapbuhay” program as of the first semester this year, the region’s Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA-13) reported Tuesday.

The program offers livelihood support aimed at assisting returning distressed or displaced OFWs.

This year, PHP6.5 million in livelihood packages were distributed to former OFWs.

“The OWWA remains committed to protecting, promoting and providing services to OFWs in the region,” Rodel Deligero, OWWA-13 officer-in-charge, said during the regular Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas forum.

In June, OWWA provided PHP225,000 in livelihood assistance to 15 surviving dependents of deceased OFWs under its Educational Livelihood Assistance program.

Additionally, PHP2.3 million were allocated for the Self-Coverage Insurance Coverage Program for 20 other surviving dependents.

Deligero noted that 149 new OFW members registered with OWWA-13 this year, while 340 existing members renewed their memberships.

The agency collected PHP1.2 million in membership fees.

OWWA-13 also reported that 112 OFWs received PHP1.3 million in medical assistance under its Welfare Assistance Program, nine received PHP110,000 as disability pay and 24 received PHP480,000 for bereavement. (PNA)
