LAOAG CITY – The Cauplasan bridge in Dingras town along the Ilocos Norte-Apayao Road will remain closed to heavy vehicles until Sept. 30 for repairs.

James Ferrer of the Ilocos Norte 2nd District Engineering Office said Monday they have to extend the closure, due to end Aug. 31, because of bad weather.

He appealed to motorists to abide by the installed traffic signages as the bridge is accessible only to light vehicles or those with a maximum of six tons.

In the meantime, heavy vehicles are advised to use the Sarrat Bridge, C-5 Road, and the Laoag-Sarrat-Piddig-Solsona Road going to Solsona town and vice versa.

The Department of Public Works and Highways funded the repair of the more than 50-year-old bridge with PHP5 million through the initiative of Senator Imee Marcos and the provincial government. (PNA)
