CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Misamis Oriental has ramped up its surveillance and monitoring efforts amid rising dengue cases across the province.

In a statement, the PHO said Tuesday that the province had activated dengue fast lanes in all eight provincial hospitals to improve case management and expedite treatment.

Data from the Department of Health in Northern Mindanao (DOH-10) showed that from January to Aug. 24, Misamis Oriental already has 2,893 dengue cases, with 23 fatalities.

The province is second in the region with most number of dengue cases, trailing Bukidnon which has logged 6,693 cases and 24 deaths.

Misamis Oriental had 1,933 cases and 15 deaths from January to August last year.

In response, Misamis Oriental Governor Peter Unabia directed all provincial hospital heads to fast-track the submission of their surveillance reports to DOH-10, aiming for real-time monitoring and response.

PHO chief Dr. Teodoro Yu Jr. also urged the public to be vigilant, warning of the simultaneous threat posed by dengue and mpox, especially in the Davao Region.

The provincial hospitals remain on code white alert, with dengue fast lanes installed, while quick response teams, in coordination with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, are on standby. (PNA)
