MANILA – Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista on Tuesday administered the oath of office of the newly-appointed general managers of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the Philippine National Railways (PNR).

In a statement, the DOTr said MRT-3 General Manager Oscar Bongon was previously the MRT-3’s interim director before he was named to the top post.

Bongon is a career engineer and executive in the MRT-3 who started working for the railway service in 1997 as part of the Project Management Office.

He was later appointed as the chief of the Maintenance Supervisory, Safety and Security division of the MRT-3 in the 2000s, and headed the Transport Division from 2004 to 2010; Station Division from 2010 to 2016; and Engineering Division from 2017 until he was appointed the MRT-3 director for operations in 2022.

“GM Bongon is now ready to take on a bigger role in the MRT-3, taking the leadership position, and ready to drive the team to more progress,” it said.

On the other hand, PNR General Manager Deovanni Miranda is also an experienced railway engineer.

Miranda previously served as the overall deputy project manager of the Metro Manila Subway Project.

He started his career in the DOTr as Engineer IV for the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) East and LRT-2 West project teams.

He began his career as an engineer in 2006, working for multiple companies in Saudi Arabia.

In 2015, he worked as an M&E (mechanical and electrical) construction coordinator and M&E lead commissioning engineer for the Copenhagen Metro Team I/S, assigned under the Copenhagen Cityringen Metro Project in Denmark.

“With his colorful experience, GM Miranda is now set to make his next rail impact with the Philippine National Railways,” the DOTr said. (PNA)
