LEGAZPI CITY – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in Bicol announced on Wednesday that 3,950 bags of cheap rice will be available for sale during the launch of the Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka (BBM Rice) on Friday.

In an interview on Wednesday, NIA-Bicol spokesperson Ma. Cleofe Baraero said the BBM rice will be sold in various Kadiwa stores in the region for only PHP29 per kilogram or PHP290 per 10-kg bag.

She said the selling of low-priced grains is made possible by NIA's Rice Contract Farming partnership with various irrigators' association members in Bicol.

"The BBM Rice can be purchased by our fellow Bicolanos, particularly those belonging to vulnerable groups like the senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), solo parents, and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) members," Baraero said.

She advised those who would make a purchase to bring their identification card as proof that they belong to the said groups.

"We will sell cheap, clean, and newly harvested rice by our local farmers in the region," she added. (PNA)
