DAVAO CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry in Davao Region (DTI-11) confiscated 17,432 non-compliant products, valued at PHP17 million.

In a statement Friday, DTI-11 regional director Romeo Castañaga credited the accomplishment to Task Force (TF) Kalasag, a team led by 20 monitoring and enforcement personnel from the agency’s Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB).

From Sept. 2 to 6, TF Kalasag inspected hardware stores, auto supply shops, vape shops, and general merchandise stores throughout the region.

“The goal is to verify compliance with product standards and raise awareness of related fair trade laws among consumers and businesses,” Castañaga said.

TF Kalasag inspected 208 establishments in Davao City, Davao del Sur, and Davao del Norte.

Fifty of the inspected businesses were non-compliant, selling products without the required Philippine Standard (PS) marks or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers.

Castañaga said the non-compliant businesses were issued Notices of Violation (NoV) for violating Republic Act No. 4109, the Product Standards Law, and DTI Department Administrative Order No. 02, series of 2007.

“The offending establishments have been ordered to pull out the affected products and will face formal charges, including fines and penalties,” he said.

DTI-11’s provincial offices hold weekly inspections to monitor compliance with fair trade laws, ensuring both price regulation and supply of commodities under its jurisdiction.

Castañaga also urged consumers to remain vigilant and prioritize buying certified, quality products to guarantee their safety and protection. (PNA)
