MANILA – The Department of Education (DepEd) and Rebisco Group of Companies on Tuesday inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to further advance education priorities in public schools in the next three years.
This was in response to the call of DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara for more public and private partnerships to ensure improvements in the quality of education in the country.
“Your long-standing commitment to education speaks volumes about your commitment, the strength of our partnership, and your continued support helps us tackle the many challenges we face in delivering quality education to our learners, as well as to help our teachers and so we thank you for all of these programs,” Angara said in a speech.
He also lauded Rebisco’s support of DepEd’s Adopt-a-School program, and rehabilitation of service facilities such as canteens.
“You've put up classrooms in Lanao del Norte, in Zamboanga, some of the poorest parts of the Philippines,” Angara said.
Rebisco Group of Companies Head of Marketing Excellence Victor Janolino said among the key areas for support include improving learners’ performance in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), provision of digital and physical learning materials, feeding programs, scholarships and employment opportunities for learners, and support for livelihood to select teachers, among others.
“Each of these six components, we have aligned to the five-point education agenda of Hon. Secretary Sonny Angara, which was unveiled only last Thursday, but we worked very fast just to make sure we are aligned with your priorities,” he said.
Janolino also vowed to expand its construction programs in other parts of the country.
“Rebisconstruct supports construction and restoration of targeted service facilities that are not only about canteens, but now including sports clinics, outdoor service areas, and library hubs,” he said.
The Rebisco Group of Companies has also produced 81 million copies of DepEd curriculum-aligned worksheets, 300,000 storybooks, and digital content with 6,000 unique daily visitors.
Learners who utilized their worksheets grew to 4.8 million learners in 7,650 schools in 2023, from 300,000 learners in 191 schools in 2020. (PNA)
