Saint Benilde stays perfect; Jose Rizal U ends slump

MANILA – College of Saint Benilde clobbered University of Perpetual Help, 78-51, to remain unbeaten in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 100 men's basketball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Arena on Wednesday.

Justin Sanchez finished with 13 points and eight rebounds as the Blazers notched their fourth straight win.

Winston Ynot contributed 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals while Gab Cometa had 10 points, four assists and two rebounds for CSB, which posted its biggest lead at 69-40 at the end of the third quarter.

“I’m surprised we won by this much, to be honest. Every game we expect to win, but I didn’t expect we would win this big and I’m very happy with the way we played today,” CSB coach Charles Tiu said.

Mark Gojo Cruz paced the Altas with 11 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Shawn Orgo chipped in 10 points, three rebounds and one steal as Perpetual joined defending champion San Beda University, Emilio Aguinaldo College and San Sebastian College-Recoletos in third place at 2-2.

Meanwhile, San Sebastian suffered a 74-90 loss to Jose Rizal University in the other game.

Marvin Raymundo delivered 21 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and one steal; while Mart Barrera scored 18 points, including three triples, as the Heavy Bombers ended their three-game slump.

Jonathan Medina added 11 points, five rebounds, two steals and two steals; Shawn Argente had 10 points, five assists and four rebounds; while Justin Lozano, who also scored 10 points, had four rebounds and four assists.

Five Stags registered double-digit scores led by Rafael Are with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.

Raymart Escobido and Ameer Aguilar scored 11 points each, while Tristan Felebrico and Leonard Velasco both made 10 points.

Meanwhile, Mapua takes on Letran at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, right after the game between Lyceum of the Philippines University (1-2) and Arellano University (0-2) at 12 noon. (PNA)
