CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The regional adviser for peace and security for Calabarzon has urged provincial local government units to lead the peace campaign and transformation program during this post-armed conflict situation, focusing interventions on the most vulnerable sectors.

During the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) Media Orientation on Wednesday held at the Paseo Premiere Hotel in Santa Rosa City, Laguna province, retired Maj. Gen. Rhoderick Parayno called on provincial leaders to establish peace centers as a way of sustaining the relative peace attained in the post-armed conflict situation in their respective areas.

Parayno noted that the security situation has been normalized through the dismantling or weakening of the armed guerrilla fronts of the communist terrorist group (CTG), putting socio-economic intervention at the forefront.

He said that OPAPRU is batting for the creation of a Provincial Peace Center in the provinces of Calabarzon as the unit of convergence for the holistic process of transformation program for communities, the friends rescued (FRs) and their families, national government agencies (NGAs), security sectors, and private sector support.

“This peace center serves as an open gate to heed our call for peace , reconciliation, and unity,” Parayno said, adding that “It is also the place for OPAPRU to channel resources and linkages.” (PNA)
