Deaths from 3 cyclones, 'habagat' effects rise to 23

MANILA – The reported deaths from the combined effects of tropical cyclones Ferdie, Gener and Helen and the enhanced southwest monsoon climbed to 23, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.

In its latest situation update, the disaster response body said Mimaropa recorded nine, four each in Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and two in Central Visayas.

Some 15 persons were also reported missing – 12 in Mimaropa, two in Zamboanga Peninsula and one in Western Visayas.

Another 13 people were injured – seven in BARMM, three in Mimaropa, two in Soccsksargen and one in Zamboanga Peninsula.

The reports of casualties and missing persons are undergoing validation, it added.

As of posting, the series of weather disturbances has affected 298,633 families or 1,061,421 persons residing in 1,441 barangays in 13 regions.

Some 18,466 families or 63,360 individuals are sheltered in 634 evacuation centers while another 14,165 families or 61,123 persons are aided outside.

The Office of Civil Defense earlier said affected families included those displaced and those not needing transfer or removal from their residence.

A total of 1,243 houses were damaged in 10 regions. (PNA)
