MANILA – The online driver’s license renewal pilot for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) held by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Taiwan was successful, with about 1,000 OFWs served last weekend.
In a statement on Tuesday, LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said the pilot program was conducted in Taichung and Kaohsiung where about 1,000 OFWs showed up to either renew their expired or expiring driver’s licenses or inquire about the project.
“Matagumpay ang ating online driver’s license renewal sa Taiwan at sa ngayon ay nire-review na namin ang lahat ng feedback at lahat ng observation upang matukoy kung saan pa dapat mag-improve (Our online driver’s license renewal pilot in Taiwan was successful, and we’re reviewing all feedback and observations to pinpoint what can be improved),” Mendoza said.
He said the program review is a step towards complying with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s order to bring the online driver’s license renewal service to other countries worldwide.
He said the program would be expanded to accommodate the significant number of OFWs in the United States, several European countries, and the Middle East.
“We assure our kababayan (compatriots) that our commitment to those who would avail of this program would complete the entire transaction as fast and as comfortably as possible,” he said.
He thanked Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) chair and Resident Representative Silvestre Bello III, Migrant Workers Office (MWO) Taipei Labor Attaché Cesar L. Chavez Jr., MWO Kaohsiung Labor Attaché David Des Dicang, MECO Taichung Extension Office Director Sabrina Aaron-Eugenio, and MECO Kaohsiung Extension Office Director Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla for their assistance to the program. (PNA)
