LEGAZPI CITY – The provincial government of Albay, through its Albay Provincial Agriculture Office (APAO), will open a farm school in the 1st District of the province that will enhance the knowledge and skills of students and farmers in agriculture and food security initiatives.

Albay Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Daryl John Buenconsejo said through the facility that would open possibly next month, more Albayanos could avail of the programs, projects, and services of the government.

He said a similar facility had been established in the 2nd District in 2018, offering courses on organic agriculture, crop production, and farmers' field school.

"The farm school that will open in Barangay Buang, Tabaco City, will be an extension of our Provincial Organic Vegetables and Experimental Station (POVES). For the 2nd District, or the towns of Manito, Camalig, Daraga, Rapu-Rapu, and Legazpi City, we have a farm school in Camalig, Albay. In the 3rd District, or the towns of Guinobatan, Oas, Ligao City, Jovellar, Pio Duran, and Polangui, we are already processing documentary requirements," Buenconsejo said.

The 1st District covers the towns of Tiwi, Malinao, Tabaco City, Malilipot, Bacacay, and Sto. Domingo.

"This is a batch-based process. Interested applicants can visit our office in Bounty Village in Camalig, Albay. We can accommodate 25 students per batch on a first-come, first-served basis. We hope we can open by October," he said. (PNA)
