Comelec: 236K registrants beat voter sign-up deadline

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) received a total of 236,442 voter applications on the last day of sign-up activities on Monday.

The poll body's data as of 7 a.m. Tuesday showed Calabarzon has the highest number of registrants who beat the deadline at 33,749, followed by the National Capital Region with 30,686 and Central Luzon with 27,196.

Bicol has recorded 15,287 registrants; Central Visayas, 14,172; Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), 12,800; Ilocos Region, 12,730; Western Visayas, 12,115; Davao, 11,671; Soccsksargen, 11,115.

Meanwhile, Northern Mindanao logged 10,687 registrants; Mimaropa, 9,939; Negros Island Region, 8,998; Caraga, 8,146; Zamboanga Peninsula, 7,200; Cagayan Valley, 5,968.

The region with the lowest number of registrants is the Cordillera Administrative Region with 3,983.

The poll body has processed over 6.9 million applications since the start of the voter registration on Feb. 12.

Aside from registration for new voters, the voter registration activities also accepted applications for transfer, change/corrections of entries in the registration records, reactivation of registration records, inclusion of registration records and reinstatement of name in the list of voters, and transfer of registration records from foreign service post to local.
